Free Horseshoes – Official Zynga Promotion

If you have been a long time player of Zynga games like Mafia Wars and Farmville you will probably be aware of the Zynga Game Bar. This is an addon for Firefox V2+ and Internet Explorer V7+ that shows you on a toolbar on your internet browser the status of your games, for example your energy levels etc.

Free Horseshoes

I’ve been asked by numerous people about recommendations they keep getting on facebook from their friends wall posts about free horseshoes, coins, animal crates and other free items. Are they a scam? Read on to discover my controversial opinion…

This is going to outrage many internet marketers. I make no apology.
Almost every single day on facebook you will see one of the above or similar groups or pages appear on your wall that looks like it has been recommended by one of your facebook friends. From the wording they use you would be forgiven for thinking that your friend got the item promised and all you have to do is follow the instructions to get them too.

Unless it is an official Zynga Games promotion you will almost certainly not get the promised items.

Here is what happens:
You visit the group or page and are presented with official looking graphics and fancy hype telling you how you can get the item promised. The first thing you have to do is click the Like Button “to see the content”.
After clicking the like button you will normally then be shown a website address and you must “Paste The Link On Facebook 7 Times” (or 5 times, 10 times etc).
After pasting the link you are then told to visit the website link to get your Free Horseshoes. You go to the site and are then told to “Fill In One A Survey To Get Your Horseshoes”.
You fill in the survey and then discover that you don’t get the horseshoes. You probably just ended up on a blank page, maybe a page that says your free horseshoes have been sent, but when you check they are not in your Frontierville account. At this point you probably just give up and assume something must be broken. It only cost 5 minutes of your time so you just forget about it and get back to what you were doing.

What actually happened?
Firstly, when you like the page or group it gets posted to your friends wall that you liked it and that appears to be a personal recommendation from you. You may have hundreds of friends, many of which play Frontierville who think “well if they like it they must have got the horseshoes so I’ll go and get some free horseshoes”. Lets say for example 20 of your friends now like the page and it spreads to 20 of their friends, already that is 401 people (including you!) now spreading the page all over facebook. These other 400 people also paste the website link into their status updates, website links etc 7 times as instructed. 20 of their friends now “like” the page, the viral effect is amazing…
As you can see these pages can and do grow to thousands of followers in a matter of hours, all of them spreading the website address and potentially making thousands of people “fill in the survey”.

Now here is the bombshell:
These surveys can make the person that created the site $5 or more per person that fills them in.

In addition, they now have a facebook group or page with thousands of followers that they can now send advertising to as often as they like to make even more money. Using these sneaky tactics marketers that start the pages can make many thousands of dollars in a short space of time. But you never get your promised reward.

So next time you see one of these posts from your friends check to see if it is from the company that is promising the reward, if not then it probably is “too good to be true”.

The Frontierville Clobber Foxes goal requires you to clobber a total of 15 foxes. Foxes are one of the varmints that appear when you tend chickens and geese. The problem with the varmints is that they take around 5 “hits” to get rid of them and this wastes your energy. To reduce the amount of energy used when clobbering foxes line up all your chickens and geese along the bottom left of your homestead as in the picture left. Like this when a fox appears it is already close to the edge of the homestead and only takes one or two hits to clobber it!
Only one fox will appear at a time, so it is better to make the foxes appear by tending chickens individually rather than using the daily bonus from the chicken coop. as the coop feeds all chickens at the same time it will only give one fox a day, feeding the same amount of chickens individually will give you several foxes.

One of the first problems many players encounter when they start to play Frontierville is they will trade in a collection and then later find that they needed an item from that collection to complete a quest. Normally it will be one of the rare items that you need like Prairie Piles, Apple Pies or Ribeye Steaks, and they can take weeks to find another item.
